Wrap-Up: Young Adult Clothing Swap

The recent Young Adult clothing swap, held on November 15 in the Faulkner Main Gallery at Central Library, brought neighbors together for a fun and sustainable wardrobe refresh opportunity. With more than 34 billion pounds of used textiles making it to U.S. landfills annually, the event offered a meaningful way for community members to recycle clothing rather than toss it out. About 50 library patrons arrived with gently used items and left with fresh finds, keeping clothing in circulation and out of the garbage.

Attendees browsed racks of gently-used donated clothes, picking out some new items to bring home. Parents contributed clothing for younger kiddos and local vintage shop, Lazy Eye Shop, brought a selection of gently used items to share. Teens showed off their clothing hauls while families were able to snag some new wear for the holiday season.

After the event all the leftover warm clothing and other high needs items filled the People’s Pantry, located on the main level of Central Library. This holiday season you can participate in mutual aid by adding to the People’s Pantry or ordering highly needed items from this wish list.

A big thank you to everyone who showed up and swapped sustainably. We’ll see you again in Spring!
