Poetry Club: Robinson Jeffers | Montecito
Born in 1887 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, Jeffers received his Bachelor’s degree at the age of 18 from Occidental College. Jeffers met his future wife Una Call Kuster in 1906 at USC, and the pair would ultimately settle in Carmel, California, where Robinson constructed Tor House and Hawk Tower. An early figure in the Environmental movement, Jeffers’ poetic work vividly captures the rugged ambiance of the California coastline. His piercing and evocative voice and famed narrative poems propelled Jeffers to become a major influence in twentieth-century poetry.
