Alma Chaidez, 25 Years of Service
For the past twenty-five years, Alma Chaidez has been a calm, steady, and valued presence at the Santa Barbara Public Library, showing up each day with quiet generosity and dedication that is genuinely appreciated by her coworkers.
Alma has supported the community through her work as a Library Technician and a Library Assistant. She is conscientious and brings extensive knowledge of library materials circulation which she put into practice by helping to create more streamlined workflows and coordinating Library Page duties.
At Eastside Library, Alma’s deep ties to the community and long-standing presence have helped create the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere for which this branch is known. Each year, Alma helps build a beautiful Dia de los Muertos altar, creating a meaningful space for community remembrance and inviting library patrons to participate by including photos of their loved ones. She recently expanded this tradition to Central Library with her characteristic dedication and care. Alma has built strong community partnerships, quietly shaping Eastside Library into a lively space filled with connection, resilience, and cultural significance.
Having seen the Library through many seasons, Alma has worked seamlessly between library branches providing impeccable patron support in both Spanish and English wherever she is stationed. Alma has served on the Library’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Team and currently serves on the Spanish Outreach Team, helping ensure library services reach and reflect the Spanish-Speaking community. Alma has earned the respect of her colleagues by advocating for herself and others, while modeling professionalism and fairness. When training new employees, Alma offers support with patience and kindness, and many have expressed appreciation for having learned from her.
We proudly recognize Alma Chaidez for twenty-five years of exemplary service and thank her for the integrity, professionalism, and compassion she brings to the Santa Barbara Public Library and the community it serves.
