Student Success Library Cards - A Kid's Journey to the Library

Student Success Cards are a kid’s key to the Library and are available to all students in Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD), now including several charter schools!

These Starter Library Cards give kids limited access to physical materials and full access to online library resources.

With your Student Success Library Card you can:

Check out up to three physical library items at a time from any SBPL location.
Access SBPL’s Full Digital Library, including eBooks, audiobooks, Brainfuse Help Now, Mango Languages, and more! Visit digital library page to explore.

How it works:

Opt-in through Aeries:
Parents or guardians can opt-in through the Aeries platform when enrolling a student in school. Student Success Cards are made active by mid-September each year. Watch this short video for step-by-step instructions.

Card Number and PIN:
Library Card Number: 21447000 + your Student ID number (aka Lunch Number)
PIN: The last four digits of the primary phone number listed in Aeries.

No physical card needed! Students can:
- Use their card number and PIN at self-check kiosks.
- Share their card number with library staff at checkout.
- Use the card number and PIN to log in to online resources.

Why should I opt-in?

It’s simple: libraries help kids succeed. Student Success Cards for All is designed to remove barriers for families who may not have time to visit the library in person. To get a Full Access Library Card for a child under 13, caregivers must visit the library in person and show ID. We know life is busy – opting in for a Student Success Card through Aeries is a simple way to support your child’s learning.

Some teachers also assign materials available through library apps like Hoopla and Libby. By opting in, you help your child fully participate in their schoolwork.

What information does SB Unified School District share with Santa Barbara Public Library?

Through the agreement, SBUSD shares limited information including:
Student’s Name
Student ID number
Home address
Student’s date of birth
Parent and/or guardian’s name
phone number or email address

Santa Barbara Public Library is committed to protecting patron privacy. We never share personal information and follow privacy policies outlined in our agreement with SBUSD.
