Summer Reading 2024

You are invited to participate in this year’s summer reading program starting on June 8! Check out the Summer event schedule on our calendar.

How to participate:

Pick up a Gameboard to set reading goals & track reading habits for the summer at Central, Eastside, or Montecito branches, and Library on the Go van.
Throughout the summer, visit the library and talk with Library staff about the books they've been reading and earn special beads.

What is a reading goal?

Your reading goal is specific to you and your goals for reading this summer! You will choose the number of books you want to read this summer and can set reading goals & track reading habits using the Gameboard provided or any other way that works for you.

What happens when I complete my reading goal?

Visit any library branch starting August 1, let a library staff member know you’ve completed your SRP reading goal, and you will receive a prize packet.

This program is funded in part by Lunch at the Library funds, a project of the California State Library, supported with funds from the State of California.

Play SBPL Summer Book Bingo!

Pick up an SBPL Book Bingo card at Central, Eastside, or Montecito branches, and Library on the Go van. SBPL Book Bingo cards are available in English and Spanish. Keep track of books you read from now through August 31st by writing the title and author in the matching square. Book titles may be used only once per card, and only one entry per person. For readers 13 and older.

How do I win?

BINGO: Complete a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line! Turn in your card to any branch of the Santa Barbara Public Library beginning August 1, and you’ll receive a prize while supplies last.

BLACKOUT: Complete all 25 squares! Turn in your card and you’ll be entered in a drawing for a grand prize— a collection of SBPL merchandise!

How do I submit my card when I’ve completed bingo?

Submit the front and back of your completed card (with either a bingo or blackout) to any branch of the Santa Barbara Public Library between August 1-August 31st.

Entries must be received by end of day on August 31st.

Children and teens are invited to come eat a free nutritious meal as part of the USDA Summer Food Service Program. Lunch will be served on a first come, first served basis, and there’s no need for applications or any kind of documentation.

Lunch at the Library is supported by the Foodbank of Santa Barbara and the California State Library.
