Get a Library Card

Body

Santa Barbara Public Library offers several different types of library cards for children and adults. Don’t have a physical address yet? Our Welcome card allows you to use library resources.

Cardholders that live outside the SBPL service area, which is defined by the County of Santa Barbara as Zone 1, must renew their library card annually by visiting an SBPL location in person and showing a government-issued identification card and proof of mailing address.

As a reminder, you are responsible for all materials checked out on your card, and for all fees associated with your account. If you have $10 or more in fees on your account, you will no longer be able to use your card until the balance is below $10.

Your library card can’t be transferred to another person, so each individual should have their own card. Parents or guardians assume responsibility for juvenile cards, and can decide at what age a child may get their own library card.

Lost your card? Visit the Library with a valid photo ID and we will issue you a replacement card. A replacement card fee of $2 will be added to your account.

Please also let us know if you change your mailing address, phone number or email address. We need your current information so you can use our self-checkout machines, and so we can let you know when your holds are ready for pickup or contact you about lost materials.
